Now that Halloween is over and Samhain is bridging the gap to Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) through a couple of Catholic holy days, we can accept that the holiday season is well and truly upon us. Was your weekend mostly tricks or treats? If you got out at all, let us know your best bird of the weekend.

My family was hit by a double whammy of strep throat and the stomach flu. Suffice to say, as the last man standing, it fell to me to care for everybody. At least I have White-breasted Nuthatches right outside my window! Corey’s account is far more exciting: New York State’s first record of Common Ground Dove (assuming that New York State Avian Records Committee accepts the bird.)  The diminutive dove was spotted at Captree State Park and Corey took part in a high-speed twitch to get it.

Not a Mourning Dove!

What was your best bird of the weekend? Tell us in the comments section about the rarest, loveliest, or most fascinating bird you observed. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment.
