Every time I press the button on my camera, I hope that the result will bring a stunning image with the distilled essence of a bird or animal captured in millions of tiny dots.

Most of the time, I know before I even lift the camera that the outcome will be less than perfect, but at least the animal might be turned slightly towards me giving the shot an intimate feel and the catchlight in the eye will set it off just nicely.

Last month, in Pilanesberg National Park near Johannesburg in South Africa, I had no such luck, but the animals’ poses did give me the opportunity to wish you all the best for the coming New Year. May you be happy, healthy and successful.
