Corey is a New Yorker who lived most of his life in upstate New York but has lived in
Queens since 2008. He's only been birding since 2005 but has garnered a respectable
life list by birding whenever he wasn't working as a union representative or spending time with his family. He lives in Forest Hills with Daisy and Desmond Shearwater. His bird photographs have appeared on the Today Show, in
Birding,
Living Bird Magazine,
Bird Watcher's Digest, and many other fine publications. He is also the author of the
American Birding Association Field Guide to the Birds of New York.
Because NYC is a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way away. And its snowing.
Because it wasn’t where it was supposed to be (in front of my bins) when I tried for it for over an hour this morning! Oof. (But, nice Myrtle Warbler in the Ramble, and Wood Duck, RH Woodpecker, and YB Sapsucker.)
@Will: Oh yeah? For me it’s around 3,875 miles. And you, Sir?
🙂
A Varied Thrush in Central Park must qualify as a really rare bird, but I imagine this is not the first record. Cory, what can you tell us about previous records of this most handsome Turdid in the NYC?
It was nice meeting you in the park on Tuesday. Did you find the Yellow-rumped Warbler?
I don’t know about NYC’s previous Varied Thrush records.
John, I did not…
Hmph. Hopefully I’ll get one that isn’t a confused misfit this summer.
well it is obvious that the Varied Thrush is varied confused. The bird probably knew that if it flew to its wintering grounds, there would a giant WAL- MART where it’s home used to be. Heck, I’d stay in NYC too.And , Dang! i am presently in the mid-south far from my home in Northern VT. or i’d be there with the lot of you looking at that bird( which is not on my list)!@#$%^&* lucky for you that get to see that beauty….
If anybody wants to research Varied Thrush records, this file just happened to be sitting on my laptop desktop when I read your thread above!
I have had a pair of Varied Thrush here at my home in Maine since December. The bird experts here tell me they will probably stay until March.
