Forgive my ignorance, but what do blogs about veganism and dog shelters have to do with saving species? For that matter, and I say this as a fan of the site, what does I can Haz Cheezburger have to do with conservation? I wasn’t aware you could save the panda by giving photos of them badly spelt yet amusing captions.
Duncan, I agree. I suppose the reasoning behind this is that these sites get people excited about animals. If for example “I can haz Cheezburger” makes you very fond of cute little kitties, you might also start to oppose the poaching of cute little tiger kitties in the wild, simply because these blogs have opened an emotional “gateway” to animals in general, not only domesticated ones. I guess??
