Fans of the phenomenal far-flung family of trogons might well imagine that these colorful, charismatic tropical birds deserve any honor awarded them. In this case, however, honors have been heaped upon the definitive book about trogons, Trogons: A Natural History of the Trogonidae by Joseph M. Forshaw and illustrator Albert Earl Gilbert. A bird book wins Best Interior Design at the 2010 International Book Awards? You know it must be amazing! Congrats to Forshaw, Gilbert, and Princeton University Press.
I love Trogons, and my first immediate thought was I would have to have this book. Then I saw the price. Hmmm. Wonder if they need an arctic review of it?
The TROGONS book is mind-boggling. Once you see the text and the astonishing artwork, you will quickly realize that the publishers are essentially GIVING this book away!! (for a mere $150). –Given that it is being published in a limited edition and will never be redone in the same way (on a 5-color press), its value will only increase–if it’s money you care about… It is truly stunning accomplishment in all respects…
