The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but, as Damon Runyan said, that’s the way to bet. Where will you be running to this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.

I managed to get my weekend birding in mid-week but still failed to bring home that coveted Saw-whet Owl. This weekend, I’ll be reduced to scanning my backyard for kinglets. On Saturday, Corey will be birding in Forest Park with Francois of Fotoportmann and hopes to get his visiting folks out in nature somewhere on Sunday. Charlie will be manning a stall for the Great Bustard Group at Chew Valley on Saturday and walking Chalfeld Sunday.

Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!

If you’ve ever wondered what a difference a day plus a volcano can make, check out Charlie’s before-and-after shots of the skies over Great Chalfield. Thanks, Eyjafjallajokull!
