If you’re like me, January exceeded your expectations in more ways than one. Certainly, none of us on my particular latitude can believe quite how cold and snowy the last month has been. Yet at the same time, I’m astonished at how eager I’ve been to get out and explore the incongruous abundance of winter birds. This is a superior time to search out new species in the more temperate zones of the northern hemisphere. You folks south of the equator might have only resident breeders to contend with, but then again, you also have summer! What will you be doing this weekend and does it involve birding? Comment below on the excitement you have planned!

Another King Eider is rumored to be haunting the shores of Lake Ontario. If it persists through the weekend, I’ll have no choice but to go after it. Corey is planning a quiet weekend of drooling over the birds he hopes to see in Honduras later this month. And Charlie, poor Charlie is left dealing with the utter havoc an inch or two of snow wreaks on London society.

Whatever you do this weekend, make time to enjoy Sky Watch Friday

Keep your eyes peeled for aggressive accipiters like this Sharp-shinned Hawk Corey spotted
