So Christmas is here. Hanukah is here. Kwanzaa is here. No matter whether or what you worship, you undoubtedly have some festivities to indulge in this weekend. You may even have a Christmas Bird Count scheduled. Whatever it is you have planned, do try to burn off some of those holiday calories by getting outside. As one bids farewell to 2008 and all that followed in its wake, a walk in the woods or along a quiet shore can be the ideal moment for quiet contemplation in the midst of Christmas chaos. So what are you doing this weekend and will you be watching birds? Comment below on the excitement you have planned!

Sara, the kids, and I will be traveling back from the Bronx after enjoying some holiday cheer (I hope!) with my family. Corey will be departing Albany after doing the same, hopefully with some siskin pics for his trouble. Charlie has the terrible misfortune of flying into Miami on Christmas; with hope, he’ll survive hanging out on a hot, sunny beach taking photos of sultry seabirds.

I don’t know if Sky Watch Friday is active this weekend, but it’s always worth a look!

If you’ve been good, maybe Santa will bring you a Black-legged Kittiwake
(You may have to settle for a superb kittiwake gallery by Charlie)
