Mid-October is a beautiful time of year in most parts of the world. Whatever you plan to do, do it in style. The 3-day weekend many of us in the United States will enjoy should inspire you to go big. You can dream big, play big, even sit big! Whatever you expect to do this weekend, will you be watching birds? Comment below on the excitement you have planned!

I won’t be doing much birding this weekend as I’ll be hosting my mother, sister, brother, niece, and future brother-in-law. They wanted to make it up to Rochester before the snows arrive; I hope they make it! Anyway, I’m also getting ready for next week’s business trip to sunny (it better be sunny) Orange County, CA where I WILL be birding in some capacity.  Corey also has family visiting this weekend and doubts much birding will get done, but he does have tentative plans to go to Jones Beach. Charlie, on the other hand, will be getting some brilliant birdwatching in as he visits Kenya. He’ll be meeting with the beneficiaries of our Small African Fellowship for Conservation to disburse funds, equipment, and good cheer while chasing down one of Kenya’s rarest passerines.

Regardless of how you plan to enjoy a lovely weekend, be sure to celebrate Sky Watch Friday

Keep your eyes peeled for battles between birds of prey like corvids and raptors
(If you’re interested, this square dance in the sky involved a few more steps!)
