Two tiny neighborhoods in Queens, Meadowmere and Warnerville, are finally connected to the New York City sewer system, and, thanks to the hookup, residents will no longer flush their toilets into a creek that runs into Jamaica Bay. Well, that is, if the residents could afford to cough up the $10,000 each to hook up to the system. One would think that a $37.5 million project might have included cash to hook the houses up, but, apparently, it did not.
I am not entirely sure what amazes me more:
a public building project that includes a $10,000 investment by each household (talk about acceptance) or the fact that to this very day, people in the USA are legally allowed to flush their toilets directly into a creek – any creek, no matter where it runs to.
Glad to hear that was cleaned up.
I have spotted, on 2 seperate occasions, a Robin at my feeders. I’m not talking about this past summer,or fall. My Robin has made these appearences during this month. This bird has not been eating at the feeder, just visiting. What’s up with that?
