…combine to create a disaster for birds in China’s Guangdong province. An estimated 10,000 birds are being slaughtered every day in the province, despite laws meant to prevent such behavior. Though there are campaigns to stop the killing it seems that corruption makes enforcement difficult, with “local rich business people and even government officials” patronizing restaurants that serve the illegally-hunted birds, according to a local restaurant manager.
