Where Are You Birding This Second Weekend of August 2016?

How do you do it? How do you beat the birding doldrums, knowing that new species will arrive soon but are still tied up completing last season’s business? Share your best tips on making the most of the quiet times. And while you’re at it, of course, tell us where you’ll be this weekend and if you’ll be birding. Share your plans in the comments below.

If you’re wondering, I’ll be hanging around soaking up the intense heat that currently bakes the Great Lakes region. Maybe I’ll check out terns at the beach. Corey is checking all kinds of things out as he continues to take the American West by storm. He’s made it to the Pacific coast and has a lot of fancy birds to chase down.

I will not be going anywhere this weekend, so if I am lucky my best bird will be a House Sparrow or an American Crow.

If only I had a brand new pair of *ZEISS CONQUEST HD 8×42 BINOCULARS* I might be able to see something interesting through my kitchen window…

Currently on a trip through the Canadian Rockies. Not sure if anyone has ever been through the Columbia Wetlands. It’s the stretch from Golden BC down to Montana. It is one of the most spectacular places to be, not just for some birds but for the landscape.
The stretch between Golden to Invermere BC is called the “Serengeti” of North America. The number of Grizzly Bears, Black Bears and bird species I saw in this stretch along with the landscape would rival a lot of the top birding spots for all round awesomeness.
