A proposed runway expansion to Sunshine Coast Airport in Queensland, Australia, threatens one of only two remaining populations of Eastern Ground Parrot in the state. Though BirdLife International lists Ground Parrot* as a Species of Least Concern, isolated populations are important to preserve both intrinsically and as reservoirs of genetic diversity.

*BirdLife International does not recognize the split to Eastern Ground Parrot and Western Ground Parrot.
