Martin Luther King Jr. lives in our memories as a heroic American who risked and ultimately gave his life to inspire change and advance civil rights. He would undoubtedly be both proud and appalled at the state of society today, but likely wouldn’t care much about the holiday we celebrate in his honor. But for many birders, MLK Day offers an extra day to chase birds. Just be sure to think about the reason for our three day weekend!

This weekend, I’m headed down to Philadelphia for family fun. Corey will be warming up for Florida fun at the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.

Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
