We asked several of our writers the same questions. Here are the answers to the one above.

Of course not (Peter Penning).

As a matter of fact, yes: I visit the Atlantic coast of Morocco regularly—several times a year. There, while reading the color rings on dozens of Audouin’s and Herring Gulls, Charles Trenet’s song “La Mer” (old version) always comes to mind, and I end up singing it out loud. I don’t speak French, and—believe me—you wouldn’t want to hear it… (Rolf Nessing).

I am working on a playlist of songs that include birdsong or sample birds with the intention of writing an article on it. For a giggle when we go on a Twitch, I will start the playlist with an excerpt from the 1966 Batman movie, ‘to the Batmobile!’ and sometimes, as we approach a Twitch, I will paraphrase some of the lines from the helicopter attack scene in Apocalypse Now and play Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries (John Hague).

I will probably get beat up for this, but I do not listen to music, which is strange because I own several guitars and most mornings the first thing I do after getting up is sit at my digital keyboard and do some improvising. It’s weird, I know, but it is what it is (Fitzroy Rampersand).

The Deliverance (1973) soundtrack (Dragan Simic)

Not really. There is a story that Mozart was inspired to the third movement of his piano concerto No. 17 in G (KV 453) by his tame starling (Peter Hinow). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozart’s_starling

I do not listen to any music while I am birding.  One of my favorite things while birding is listening for bird songs and chip notes.  Music would interfere with this.  While driving in the car, I am generally a podcast listener  (Catherine Carroll)

No, I’m not musical (David Tomlinson).
