North of the Equator, birders tend to focus their efforts this time of year on breeding birds. No, we’re not trying to ogle avifauna in flagrante delicto (at least I’m not) but rather just catching up with parents and chicks. Considering that this Sunday is Father’s Day in the United States, this emphasis on bird parenting is fitting. Enjoy!

Every year, I try to drag my own kids out on a Father’s Day hike with varying levels of success. Wish me luck. Corey will be birding around Queens and may find time to investigate an intriguing tern colony. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.

Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
