I’ve been so busy actually watching birds that I neglected my second anniversary of writing about watching birds. August 11 was our blogoversary!

The last year has been quite productive for the Core Team. We spotted 71 brand new birds and loads of familiar ones. We also visited some fantastic locales, including Washington State, Puerto Rico, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Our house has prospered and, most important, our little boy is growing into a quite a big boy. All in all, the last 365 days have been fabulous.

Life on the blog has also been a blast. As the year has progressed, my interest in maintaining 10,000 Birds and improving upon it has deepened. Writing about birding and the natural world (and occasionally politics, art, and personal matters) remains enormously satisfying; growing friendships with other bloggers and the inception of I and the Bird only add to the pleasure. And if my traffic logs are any indication, I’m not the only one having fun here!

Two years is not a long time, no matter how full one’s days may be. Life is long and we have many rivers yet to cross. Spotting every one of the world’s birds, after all, is the work of a lifetime and more. But we’ll keep birding and blogging and trying to make 10,000 Birds the most entertaining, enlightening, perhaps amusing site possible. Just keep reading!
