A company named Matatalab is currently in the final stages of launching a pair of AI-powered binoculars. The list of properties on their Kickstarter page is extensive:
- Magnification 8×32
- Photo and video capture (8MP CMOS Sensor capturing a resolution of 2880×2160)
- Monitor for instant viewing and sharing
- AI for instant recognition of birds, other animals, and plants
- Mobile App allowing direct viewing
- Wi-Fi connection to phone
- High image quality (ED lens, Wide Dynamic Range Technology)
- Lightweight (560 g)
That all sounds interesting, as does the price currently indicated on Kickstarter (about 300 USD). How well these features will work in practice will only become clear once the first binoculars are shipped in about a month.
In the meantime, Solvia has offered to give one pair of binoculars to a 10,000 Birds reader. Interested? Please send your name and address to carmen@matatalab.com. We will announce the name of the lucky reader here on 10,000 Birds.
