We here at 10,000 Birds are firmly on the side of those who want to keep cats indoors. The American Bird Conservancy has been at the forefront of that fight and they have written a letter to the mayors of the fifty largest cities in the United States asking them to help stop the rising tide of feral cats. Larry has the story at The Birder’s Report.

i really enjoy 10000 birds blog, check it everyday, amazing photos and great stories! But I can’t stand your thing about cats… drives me crazy!
i have 4, and yes they are indoor-only. my neighbor has 3 that stay out all the time… which makes me nuts!
How will the country ever get the feral cat thing under control? LAWS spay/neuter laws!! Have you any idea of thousands of cats (and dogs) euthanized daily in our country’s so called “shelters”. it is a disgrace that we as tax payers fund.
You diss TNR and say it doesn’t work, well I’ve done it with several colonies and guess what? They STOP BREEDING! It greatly reduces potential for more cats in that area, until some idiot dumps their family pet anyway 🙁
@beth wheeler: T-N-R does not work. It leaves cats outdoors to predate upon native wildlife and to suffer. The life of an outdoor cat is short and painful and detrimental to native wildlife.
I am glad that you are a fan of the blog and would say that if you really dislike the cat posts that you should skip them – there’s lots of other content here!
