hummingbird in flight

If you build it, they will come

or rather

If you plant it, they will feed.

Hummingbirds agree.

Flitting from air to native scarlet sage petals;

the same plants I carefully chose

and tended

and watered

and weeded

for this very moment.

When a pair of emerald avians

of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

flew through

feisty

feeding

on their way to the coast

and, eventually,

across the Gulf.
