Thanks for directing us to that post. It’s a very important issue. As a former teacher and principal for 32 years, I think environmental education for all children is critical. I worked for many years with Latino kids, and sometimes their immigrant parents were working so many jobs and were so exhausted, they hadn’t ever taken their kids out hiking or to a science museum. I recommended this to parents, and with the help of dedicated teachers, organized some trips. Whenever I coordinated the annual Great Backyard Bird Count, it was exciting to see which kids would be attracted to attend. Some kids are naturally drawn to birds from a young age, and this needs to be encouraged by the important adults in their lives.
