Over at Pharyngula PZ Myers has one heck of an image of a woodpecker fight. My question is how did the Northern Flicker manage to catch the Red-headed Woodpecker’s tongue?

That has got to hurt!
Yesterday while doing a count for the GBBC, a male Pileated Woodpecker got into a scrap with a male Hairy Woodpecker over suet. Feathers flew, and the pair were making weird noises. It ended when the tangled Woodpeckers rolled down a snow bank and then flew off in seperate directions.
I was on the back deck, but my camera and camcorder were inside the house.
Yikes!
